What is Japanese language?

The Japanese language (日本語 – Nihongo) is spoken by over 125 million people, primarily in Japan.
It features a unique and complex writing system made up of three scripts: Hiragana, used for native words and grammar; Katakana, used for foreign words and names; and Kanji, which are Chinese characters used for core vocabulary such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Japanese grammar follows a Subject–Object–Verb structure and relies heavily on particles like は (wa), を (o), and に (ni) to show the role of each word in a sentence.
Verbs are conjugated based on tense and politeness but do not change with the subject.
Pronunciation is relatively simple, with only five vowel sounds (a, i, u, e, o) and consistent syllables.
A unique aspect of Japanese is its emphasis on politeness levels, with different forms of speech used depending on the formality of the situation, ranging from casual to honorific.
The language also includes many loanwords from English and other languages, adapted into the katakana script (e.g., コンピュータ for "computer").
Japanese is deeply connected to the country’s culture, and learning it provides insight into everything from anime and traditional arts to daily life and social etiquette.
